The 1 km grid behind Yr — MET Norway's own forecast, statistically corrected against the observation network. Temperature, wind in metres per second, rain, and the two probability fields nothing else publishes: thunder and snow.
MEPS 2.5 km
The raw mesoscale model underneath — AROME over Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark, run jointly by the three Nordic services. Fog, visibility, CAPE, precipitation type, and the 850 hPa and 500 hPa fields the synoptic picture is read from.
Radar & Nowcast
The Nordic radar composite at one kilometre, refreshed every five minutes — what is actually falling, measured rather than forecast — with MET Norway's own two-hour advection nowcast running ahead of it.
Ocean Waves
WAVEWATCH III at 4 km over the North Sea, the Norwegian Sea and the Barents, with the swell trains separated from the wind sea and the expected maximum wave alongside the significant height. The 3 km WAM run carries the outlook to ten days.
Svalbard & the Barents
A real 2.5 km mesoscale model over Svalbard, Jan Mayen, Bjørnøya and the ice edge, out to 87.6 °N — on a polar stereographic frame, because Web Mercator cannot reach that far. Not a global model cropped to a pole.
Why this site exists
A kilometre, eight times a day
MET Nordic is the finest grid in this network by some distance, and it is post-processed against real observations rather than left raw. It is the flagship here: every field, every hour to T+36, drawn at the resolution MET Norway actually publishes.
Metres per second, and Celsius
Norway states wind in m/s, so the colour scale breaks where the national scale breaks — liten kuling at 10.8, sterk kuling at 17.2, full storm at 24.5. Every ramp is pinned to absolute values, so a loop shows the weather changing and never the palette re-fitting itself.
Five models, one instrument
Flip the 1 km post-processed grid against the raw 2.5 km run at the same valid instant and any difference on screen is a real disagreement. Same colours, same framing, same time axis, same probe — pointed at different forecasts.
Part of a network
Forecast Norway is the Norwegian member of a family of model sites: Forecast Britain reads the Met Office, Forecast Euro reads ECMWF, Forecast Canada reads the MSC suite, and weather.city covers places rather than models. The MEPS domain takes in Sweden, Denmark and Finland too, so the maps here already cover them.
